The Karakoram International University or Karakoram University is an internationally recognized university in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. But It was established in 2002 with a charter of the Federal Government of Pakistan with the goal of improving access to higher education for the deserving people of Gilgit-Baltistan. So there are two faculties sciences, humanities, and social sciences.
A third Faculty of Hill Area Development Studies is still in the planning stage. So KIU is chartered as a multi-campus institution, the campus located at University Road in Gilgit is well built; However, Skardu Campus was established in 2011 with programs of four departments. Therefore the Skardu complex is under construction. So the main facilities are complete and in 2007 about 2000 students were enrolled. a third of them were women.
History
Karakoram International University is the first university in Gilgit-Baltistan to provide quality education to the students of every district. It was a charter established by the order of the Federal Government of Pakistan and the then President Pervez Musharraf. The Karakoram International University is situated before the backdrop of steep mountains at the junction point of the Ghizar and Hunza Rivers.
Therefore the main campus of the university is located at Konodas Gilgit. However, Gilgit is the headquarters of Gilgit-Baltistan. So Gilgit has become a metropolis that has a vast environment to meet every need in every aspect of life. But It has its own airport, which provides daily flights to Islamabad. So The famous Karakoram Highway (KKH) connecting Pakistan with China passes through the Hunza district.
A small section of the Karakoram Highway connects Gilgit to Skardu. So the Karakoram International University has two main campuses. But Its main campus is located on University Road, which is easily accessible from the airport and bus station. So Now a bridge constructes between Gilgit Airport and the University. So Taxis and other vehicles are available around the city and are a convenient mode of transport.
The Karakoram University sub-campus, i.e. But Skardu campus inaugurates by Syed Mehdi Shah, former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan in July 2011. But the campus is located at Hussainabad Road, Skardu.
According to its charter, the Karakoram International University is a multi-campus university. So Wherever possible, additional campuses sought to establish as per the availability of government and local support. in present, The main campus of Karakoram University has approximately 2300 students, over 100 faculty members, and over a hundred administrative staff in sixteen academic departments. Skardu Campus starts with four main departments i.e. So English, Computer Science, Business Management, and Education.

So the primary campus is located on University Road in Gilgit. Therefore In 2011, KIU established a satellite complex in Skardu. So In 2016 KIU established another satellite complex in Hunza.
In August 2017, Mission Director Jerry Bisson and President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain inaugurated a new USAID-funded Education Building at the Gilgit-Baltistan campus.
