King Edward Medical University (KEMU) is a public medical university located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The university was in 1860 and was after King Edward VII. Established by the British ruler and named Lahore Medical College. In 1868, the University of Dublin granted Lahore medical school students “similar privileges granted to students in British schools.” In 1871, the university added Mayo Hospital as an affiliated hospital, replacing the existing Anarkali pharmacy. In the same year, the college became an affiliate of Punjab University, and in 1887, the university added Lady Atchison Hospital as the second teaching hospital. So, after Pakistan became independent, the university became the only medical school in the province, and in 2005 it became a degree-granting statute. Since then, it has undergone expansion and supervised seven tertiary referral hospitals, including Lady Wellington Hospital.
In 2015, HEC announced fifth place in the ranking of higher education institutions in Pakistan. But, KEMU was rank 6th in Pakistan Medical University by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
History
The King Edward Medical School was in 1860 and was formerly the Lahore Medical School. But it is the fifth-oldest medical school in South Asia, second only to Kolkata Medical College (January 28, 1835), Chennai Madras Medical College (February 2, 1835), Mumbai Grant Medical College (1845), And Agra Sarojini Naidu Medical College (1854).
But the first teaching building was complete in 1883. So, on December 21, 1911, the Lahore Medical School was renaming King Edward Medical School in honor of the late King and Emperor. But it was to upgrade to an independent degree-granting university on May 12. And in 2005, it was renamed King Edward Medical School. The University.

But KEMU’s psychiatry department was designated by the Prime Minister’s National Advisory Committee as the Punjab Trauma Center after the murder in Peshawar Army Public School in 2014. But the center aims to hold workshops on trauma, identify and train teams of mental health professionals and develop training modules. But the lead coordinator is Dr. Ali Madeeh Hashmi. So, a committee of technical experts was formed by famous psychiatrists and psychologists in Punjab. So, the center held the first aid team seminar on January 17, 2015, and conducted “psychological first aid” training for professionals from 1122 rescue services, traffic police, and Punjab police. But the next seminar will be held on February 7, 2015. Including different types of programs, the themes such as responsible reporting of terrorist activities, mental health issues faced by media personnel, and dynamics between the government, the media, and terrorism highlight the program.
