In 2005, the Okara campus of the University of Education, Lahore (UE) was inaugurated by the then Defense Minister (Pakistan) On 23 February 2016, the provincial assembly of Punjab passed “Okara University 2016”. Thereafter, the Punjab Government issued a notification on 1 April 2016 to upgrade the Okara campus to Okara University.
