History
Founded in 1963, as a direct response to the Faculty of Engineering of Sindh University, it was affiliated with Sindh University (1951) in Jamshoro. Until 1973, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan Afghan was one of the founding presidents of the Faculty. The college of his efforts obtained the charter of the “University of Engineering” under the name of “Mehran University of Engineering and Technology”.
But the first batch of MUET enroll in January 1974, with 450 students majoring in civil engineering, machinery, electrical, electronics, metallurgy, chemical engineering, and industrial engineering. Initially, these courses starts at the Government Technical College on Nawab Shah Sakrand Road, where students lived in university dormitories (some classrooms convert into dormitories). Some students bought private houses in the Society area of Nawab Shah, where they lived for two years until they built a new dormitory near the university campus. So With the third batch of enrollment in 1976, the first batch of students transfer to Jamshoro to complete their third and final year of engineering education.
This is mainly because the MUET Jamshoro campus has well-equipped laboratories and high-quality teachers, and also because of the lack of classroom and laboratory space in Nawab Shah because the number of students has increased to 1,500 when the third batch of admission.
