Ayub Medical College is a leading public medical institution in Abbottabad, Pakistan. It is one of the medical schools affiliated with Khyber Medical University. AMC has 1,500 students in MBBS and BDS courses and performs clinical rotation at Ayub Teaching Hospital. Faculty and staff work in the basic science and clinical departments. There are 212 full-time teachers: lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors, and professors.

History

In the late 1960s, a government study concluded that Pakistan needed more medical schools to improve the country’s medical education, research, and healthcare. So In particular, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is in urgent need of medical reform-therefore, in 1972 it was decided to build another medical school outside of Peshawar. But In 1975, 4 cities were shortlisted for the site selection of the new college; Abbottabad, Dera Ismail Khan, Mingora, and Jitral. Therefore In 1978, it was decided to establish a new college in Abbottabad. So On May 9, 1979, the Ayub Medical College started classes.

The first batch of 100 students (who graduated in 1984) was placed in the Education Promotion Center, and the current university campus and teaching hospital were later built in Zhenbei. So On December 30, 1990, the new campus opened its doors to students, faculty, and staff. After the opening of the Ayub Teaching Hospital in 1998, the Abbottabad Regional Headquarters Hospital still belongs to the Ayub Medical College. So the AMC is named after former President Ayub Khan from nearby Haripur. But the first principle of AMC was Dr. Abdul Jamil Khan. So today, AMC has one of the largest medical schools in Pakistan.

Academics

After five years of professional theoretical and clinical training, students can obtain a bachelor’s degree in medicine and a bachelor’s degree in surgery. So AMC has 24 clinical departments and 8 basic science departments, with 212 full-time faculty members who participate in teaching, patient care, and advancement of medical knowledge through academic clinical and basic scientific research. So Each year, AMC educates and trains approximately 1,000 medical students and 200 residents and researchers.

In addition to offering MBBS degrees, AMC also offers BDS degrees for dental students. In 2010, AMC introduced Community Oriented Medical Education (COME), a problem-based form of learning that aims to change from a one-year system to a semester system. However, this transition is slow and faces many problems in the acceptance and experience of teachers and learners. Graduates are eligible to apply for a medical license from the Medical and Dental Commission of Pakistan after completing their degree and working in a teaching hospital for one year.

Recognition

AMC is fully recognizes by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Commission (PMDC). The Pakistan College of Physicians and Surgeons recognizes postgraduate training in medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and pathology in many of its departments. The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists awarded AMC Obstetrics and Gynecology Recognition for clinical training of MRCOG candidates

Finally, KMU released the provisional merit lists of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Sector Medical and Dental Colleges for the session 2023. The medical entry test conducts from August 30 to September 30, 2023. For the first time in the history of Pakistan, medical entry test conducts across the country using computer test technology through the Pakistan Medical Commission under the central policy of PMC.

KPK KMU MBBS/BDS  Open Merit lists 2023

The National MDCAT test conducts across the country for admission in MBBS and BDS for the year 2023. After completing the application process, KMU is now enrolling in government medical colleges without wasting any more time. KMU is KPK’s main examination body for admission in medical colleges. KMU has released the open merit list of MBBS / BDS for 2023.

The merit of the newly amalgamated tribal districts (formerly FATA) this year 2023 is much higher than in previous years. As FATA seats doubled for the next 09 years. And now admission will also be on double quota seats. As each district has its own merit and we have added the average merit for this year 2023.
